NEW YORK (A) - Paul Molitor saw the ball really well, leading Cleveland to a 11-3 win over New York (A). His five hits thrilled his teammates and coaches, and Paul seemed happy as well after the game. His 1st hit, a solo homerun off Scott Sanders in the 1st inning, landed an estimated 423 feet from home plate. In the 2nd inning he belted a double off Scott Sanders. Number 3 in the 3rd inning accounted for a RBI double. He collected singles in the 5th inning and in the 9th (one RBI). Paul did drive in 3 while scoring 3 runs on his own. This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 45 hits in 134 at bats, resulting in a .336 batting average.
Monday 5/16/1994: Bill D. Doran collects 2000th hit against California
CHICAGO (A) - Chicago (A)'s players had every reason to congratulate Bill D. Doran, who reached a milestone today, collecting his 2000th career hit! Along with his 2000 hits, Bill D. collected 143 homeruns and 951 RBI in 13 seasons. 'I guess I'll celebrate a bit today. But the most important thing is winning, and my whole career I gave everything I could to help my team.' He hit a single in the 4th off Gregg Olson for number 2000.
Monday 5/16/1994: Baltimore's Henry out for 4-5 weeks
BALTIMORE - Baltimore's pitcher Butch Henry was part of a scary incident that saw the lefty being hit by a line drive in the 2nd inning of the game between Baltimore and Seattle. Team trainers immediately rushed onto the field after the frightening scene. Henry will miss about 4-5 weeks. After being taken to a local hospital, Henry was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Fractured Hand. His ERA of 6.27 helped him to a 1-4 record this year. He struck out 14 and walked 5 in 37.1 innings.

Rickey Henderson wins his 2nd Player of the Week award. American League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Henderson helped his team with an average of .632 and 5 RBI in 19 at bats. The National League's best player of the week was San Diego's Brian S. Giles, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. Brian S. went 11 for 19 (.579), while hitting 2 HR and collecting 9 RBI.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia is without its right-hander Dave Shipanoff for at least 6-7 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Mitch Webster in a game against St. Louis. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Pulled Bicep Muscle which will require surgery. His ERA of 7.78 helped him to a 0-1 record this year. He struck out 15 and walked 14 in 19.2 innings.

MINNESOTA - Minnesota's leftfielder Albert Belle will miss at least 4 weeks after he got hurt seriously while running hard toward second base. He began limping and then fell down, causing a scary moment for his teammates. He had to be carried off the field. Inflamed Anterior Cruciate Ligament was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Belle has hit for a .353 average this season. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Pittsburgh wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Brown had suffered a Herniated Disc Back. In 0 starts this year Mark struck out 6 batters in 29.2 innings of work. His ERA is 4.55, his record 1-1.

CINCINNATI - It was one of baseball saddest days. Cincinnati's right-hander Keith Brown fell victim to a career ending injury in a game against Houston on Thursday. He complained about pain after throwing a pitch to Todd Haney, then suddenly collapsed. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Torn Bicep Muscle. Opposing players hit .307 against Keith this season. While posting an ERA of 5.91 he went 1-4 in 8 starts, fanning 30 and walking 16 hitters. His career featured a record of 45-80 with an ERA of 3.93. Baseball will certainly miss this great player.
