When outfielder Devon White found out he was being acquired by the Blue Jays, his reaction was different than most. “I just had this crazy vision,” he said. “I saw myself making a leaping catch at the wall in the World Series.” Many players undoubtedly envision themselves as World Series heroes growing up in the backyard, but this was different. “It was so vivid,” White added. “I can remember the details. It was Game 3, close game, and I made a catch that nobody was expecting. It was like I was revisiting something from a past life or something.” White, acquired from the Brewers via a minor waiver trade over the All-Star break, will certainly have more opportunity to be a playoff hero with first-place Toronto than last-place Milwaukee, but he’ll have to make the roster first. “Devo,” as his teammates affectionately call him, is a thirty-one-year-old defensive specialist with a .691 career OPS in 837 MLB at-bats who has spent most of the past three seasons in AAA. That’s where the light-hitting utility outfielder will report with the Jays as well, though he’ll likely see some September action and may have an outside shot to make the playoff roster as a defensive replacement.
