BOSTON - Boston's Wade Boggs showed a smile on his face after he got his 3000th career hit against Texas on Thursday. His best year so far was 1986 where he hit .333 with 8 homeruns and 79 RBI. 'Wow. That is all I can say now. I'm thrilled.' With no outs in the 3rd inning, Wade drilled a single, causing a standing ovation from the crowd. The Hall of Fame already has reserved a place for this great player.
Tuesday 7/12/1994: Montreal's Poehl severely injured
MONTREAL - Montreal is without its right-hander Mike Poehl for at least 5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Harold Reynolds in a game against San Diego. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Poehl was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Pulled Bicep Muscle. His ERA of 3.69 helped him to a 4-5 record this year. He struck out 62 and walked 20 in 78 innings.
Tuesday 7/12/1994: Cleveland has no chance in a NO-HITTER by Jeff Peterek
CLEVELAND - California's right-hander Jeff Peterek is a really great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff while making history, blanking Cleveland on no hits. 'Well, the ball went where I wanted it. I was able to hit the corners with all of my pitches. I'm so happy that it was enough to pitch such a great game.' Peterek (13-4) fanned 5 and walked 2, throwing 124 pitches. California's centerfielder Mike Devereaux collected 2 hits in 5 trips to the plate, blasting a homerun, scoring two runs with 2 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Peterek. California improved its record to 49-38, scoring 6 runs on 8 hits.
Monday 7/11/1994: San Francisco's Clark wins Player of the Week award
Toronto's catcher Joe Oliver had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. He had an on base percentage of .529 and hit .500, while driving in 6 runs. Team officials were informed later that Hickerson had suffered a Strained Rotator Cuff Muscle. Bryan has a record of 0-0 this season, with an ERA of 4.76. In 22.2 Innings he was able to strike out 21 batters.
