Saturday 7/30/1994: Gary Eave out for 5 weeks
TORONTO - Toronto is without its right-hander Gary Eave for at least 5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Mike A. Marshall in a game against Cleveland. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Ruptured Tricep Tendon. Gary has a record of 11-8 this season, with an ERA of 3.95. In 143.2 Innings he was able to strike out 114 batters. Gary has pitched one shutout and 5 complete games.
Wednesday 7/27/1994: Pete Incaviglia out for full season
DETROIT - Detroit's leftfielder Pete Incaviglia suffered a season ending injury when he was struck by a pitch from California's Dave Stieb. He collapsed in pain and was helped off the field. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Broken Wrist which will require surgery. Incaviglia has hit 15 homeruns this year while batting .284. He adds 9 doubles, along with 60 runs scored.
Monday 7/25/1994: Mike Kingery uncorks five hits against Houston
MONTREAL - Mike Kingery punished Houston's pitching today, collecting five hits in 5 AB. That definitely helped Montreal, they won the game 10 to 1. Number 1 in the 1st inning, a shot estimated at 344 feet, cleared the wall in right field. In the 7th inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Bobby Thigpen. Number 5 in the 8th inning accounted for a RBI double. He had singles in the 3rd and in the 5th . Mike did drive in 6 while scoring 3 runs on his own. His 5 hit performance increases his batting average to .298.
Monday 7/25/1994: Chicago (A)'s Thomas wins Player of the Week award
Frank E. Thomas from Chicago (A) wins his 3rd Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the American League. He hit .481 with 13 RBI and slugged .852 in 27 at bats. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 14 games. Rafael Palmeiro wins his 2nd Player of the Week award. National League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. He had an on base percentage of .429 and hit .407, while driving in 13 runs. He has hit 29 longballs while batting .318 this season. His 116 hits and 50 walks add up to a .406 on-base percentage. He's 2nd in the National League in RBIs and 1st in homeruns!
Saturday 7/23/1994: Kevin Brown quiets Kansas City bats with shutout
KANSAS CITY - Toronto's right-hander Kevin Brown is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Kansas City on just one hit. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 23rd time he has done it in his career. Brown (16-4) struck out 6 and walked 2, throwing 69 of 118 pitches for strikes. 'Hey, that's my job! Everytime I take the mound I give the best I can. And my best stuff was too much for them today.' Ken Caminiti provided Toronto with the offense Brown needed as he collected 3 hits in 4 trips to the plate, stroking two 2B's. The final score of the game was 3-0.
