Monday 9/5/1994: Grace (BAL) and Hill (COL) win P.O.W. award
Baltimore's first baseman Mark Grace had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. Mark pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .435 with 3 HR and 10 RBI while slugging 1.000. It's the 1st time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to Colorado's leftfielder Glenallen Hill. Glenallen was on fire, hitting .476 with 3 HR and 6 RBI. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 7 games. Hill has hit 11 longballs this year while batting .303. He adds 23 doubles, along with 57 runs scored.
Friday 9/2/1994: Milwaukee's Trout severely injured
MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee is without its lefty Steve Trout for at least 5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Lou Whitaker in a game against Minnesota. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Strained Bicep Muscle. Surgery will be performed next week. Opposing players hit .258 against Steve this season. While posting an ERA of 4.54 he went 4-10 in 23 starts, fanning 104 and walking 81 hitters.
Friday 9/2/1994: New York (A)'s Mattingly severely injured
NEW YORK (A) - New York (A)'s first baseman Don Mattingly will miss the rest of the season. He injured himself running the bases in the game between New York (A) and Boston. The injury didn't seem to be serious the moment it happened. But suddenly Mattingly collapsed in pain and had to be carried off the field. New York (A) wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Mattingly had suffered a Torn Posterior Cruciate Ligament. His season numbers are: .287 AVG, 113 hits, 19 doubles, no triples and 17 longballs, along with 64 RBI and 67 runs scored.
Thursday 9/1/1994: Glenn Hubbard has 2000th career hits
MONTREAL - Montreal's shortstop Glenn Hubbard joined some elite company today, collecting his 2000th career hit! With two outs in the 3rd inning, Glenn drilled a double, causing a standing ovation from the crowd. In 14 years of big league action so far, Glenn has compiled a batting average of .266, along with 49 homeruns and 731 RBI. 'I'm out of words. I'll probably realize it tomorrow, but for now I'm done.'

MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee's first baseman Tino Martinez will miss the rest of the season. He injured himself running the bases in the game between Milwaukee and Minnesota. The injury didn't seem to be serious the moment it happened. But suddenly Martinez collapsed in pain and had to be carried off the field. After being taken to a local hospital, Martinez was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Broken Foot. Martinez has walked 49 times this year and posts a .335 OBP. While batting .269, 130 for 483, he has driven in 83 runs.
