Tuesday 9/13/1994: Huge blow for San Francisco's Jackson, career over
SAN FRANCISCO - It was one of baseball saddest days. San Francisco's right-hander Mike R. Jackson fell victim to a career ending injury in a game against St. Louis on Tuesday. He complained about pain after throwing a pitch to Mitch Webster, then suddenly collapsed. Jackson was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Bone Chips Shoulder. Mike R. has a record of 14-2 this season, with an ERA of 3.86. In 203 Innings he was able to strike out 165 batters. Mike R. has pitched one shutout and 3 complete games. His career featured a record of 129-51 with an ERA of 3.15. Baseball will certainly miss this great player.
Tuesday 9/13/1994: Detroit's Perez severely injured
DETROIT - Detroit is without its southpaw Yorkis Perez for at least 7 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to J.T. Snow in a game against Kansas City. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Detroit wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Perez had suffered a Pulled Tricep Muscle. In 0 starts this year Yorkis struck out 58 batters in 59.2 innings of work. His ERA is 4.68, his record 5-1.
Monday 9/12/1994: Player of the Week honors go to Martinez and Meyer
The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to Seattle's Edgar Martinez this time, as the first baseman displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Edgar was on fire, hitting .611 with 3 HR and 5 RBI. This year Martinez drove in 108 and scored 103 runs while batting .369 with 31 bombs. He's 2nd in the American League in batting, 7th in homeruns and 5th in RBI! It's the 1st time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to Colorado's first baseman Joey Meyer. Joey pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .545 with 2 HR and 11 RBI while slugging .909. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 10 games.
Saturday 9/10/1994: Mike Piazza punishes Chicago (N) with three dingers
CHICAGO (N) - Mike Piazza powered New York (N) to a 9-8 win over Chicago (N). He did it in style by homering three times. Number 1 in the 2nd inning, a shot estimated at 385 feet, cleared the wall in right field. His 2nd shot, off Ken Hill in the 4th inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in right field. A pitch from Ken Hill in the 6th inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 436 feet from home plate in right-center. Overall he got 3 hits in 4 AB, with three runs scored and collecting 4 RBI.

LOS ANGELES (N) - Hitting homeruns is one of the most difficult things in sports. To hit three of them in one game is almost sensational. Los Angeles (N)'s rightfielder Jay Buhner accomplished that feat in a 17-0 win over Pittsburgh. His 1st shot, a two-run homerun off Jack Morris in the 1st inning, cleared the fence in left field. His 2nd blast, a solo homerun off Frank Eufemia in the 2nd inning, landed an estimated 416 feet from home plate. His 3rd shot, off Steve K. Davis in the 5th inning, was a GRAND SLAM and cleared the fence in left field. Jay went 3 for 5, with three runs scored with 7 RBI. Kazuhiro Kiyohara was the last player to hit 3 homeruns in a game, doing it 8/27/1994. Los Angeles (N) scored 17 runs on 15 hits.
Thursday 9/8/1994: Danny Tartabull hits for the cycle against Boston
CHICAGO (A) - Danny Tartabull led Chicago (A) to a 17-1 win over Boston by squeezing five hits out of his bat. That's not the best part, though. He hit for the cycle as well! Number 1 in the 1st inning accounted for a double. A RBI triple off Mark Grant in the 1st inning, accounted for his 2nd hit. A pitch from Ross Baumgarten in the 3rd inning left his bat for a double. A single in the 4th off Jose J. Bautista accounted for his 4th hit. Number 5 in the 6th inning, a shot estimated at 343 feet, cleared the wall in left field. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Danny scored 4 runs, and he collected 4 RBI as well! He now has a total of 86 hits this season, accounting for a .290 batting average. He's now the 82nd player in league history to hit for the cycle! Frank E. Thomas was the last player to hit for the cycle, doing it 7/22/1994.
