Wednesday 6/8/1995: Cleveland's Langston severely injured
CLEVELAND - Cleveland's left-hander Mark Langston will not pitch again this year, suffering a serious injury in the game against Kansas City on Wednesday. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Torn Rotator Cuff Muscle. Surgery will be performed next week. Opposing players hit .330 against Mark this season. While posting an ERA of 6.55 he went 0-1 in 0 starts, fanning 24 and walking 21 hitters.
Monday 6/6/1995: Player of the Week honors go to Rodriguez and Mueller
It's the 3rd time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to California's catcher Ivan Rodriguez. Rodriguez helped his team with an average of .478 and 12 RBI in 23 at bats. Colorado's third baseman Bill R. Mueller had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. He hit .625 with 6 RBI and slugged 1.000 in 16 at bats. He has hit 4 bombs while batting .296 this season. His 48 hits and 13 walks add up to a .354 on-base percentage.
Saturday 6/4/1995: Pittsburgh's Francisco Melendez slams six hits
PHILADELPHIA - 'Wow, six hits in one game is something special, isn't it?' said Pittsburgh's third baseman Francisco Melendez after the 13-4 win over Philadelphia. His 3rd hit was a double off Lance McCullers Sr. in the 6th inning. His 4th hit was a RBI double off Randy Veres in the 6th inning. He had singles in the 1st inning (one RBI) , in the 4th , in the 7th inning (one RBI) and in the 9th inning . Francisco scored 2 runs, and he collected 3 RBI as well! He is hitting .288 this season, with 1 HR and 22 RBI.
