The American League Player of the Week award goes to Albert Belle, Minnesota's starting leftfielder. He had an on base percentage of .480 and hit .435, while driving in 11 runs. The National League's best player of the week was Atlanta's Archi Cianfrocco, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. He had an on base percentage of .429 and hit .429, while driving in 15 runs. This year Cianfrocco drove in 55 and scored 34 runs while batting .232 with 15 homeruns.
Friday 7/1/1995: Peterek and Smoltz receive Pitcher of the Month award
Winner of this months American League Pitcher of the Month award is California's Jeff Peterek. He had an ERA of just 1.30 in 48.1 innings of work in which he struck out 33 hitters. NEW YORK (A) - Albert Belle powered Minnesota to a 23-0 win over New York (A). He did it in style by homering three times. His 1st blast, a solo homerun off Rick Huisman in the 4th inning, landed an estimated 437 feet from home plate. Number 2 in the 9th inning, a shot estimated at 395 feet, cleared the wall in right-center. A pitch from Angel Miranda in the 9th inning left his bat for a three-run homerun, landing 346 feet from home plate in left field. Albert finished 5 for 7, scoring FOUR runs with 6 RBI.
Tuesday 6/28/1995: Hideo Nomo fires 2-hitter against Colorado
LOS ANGELES (N) - Los Angeles (N)'s right-hander Hideo Nomo is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Colorado on just 2 hits. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 3rd time he has done it in his career. 'I was hitting my spots. Now I'll start concentrating on my next start, and hopefully it will work again.' Nomo (6-9) fanned 6 and walked 1, throwing 104 pitches. Jerry Goff provided Los Angeles (N) with the offense Nomo needed as he got 2 hits in 4 AB, homering once, and driving in 4 runs. Los Angeles (N) scored 10 runs on 12 hits.

Sunday 6/26/1995: Chris Sabo uncorks cycle hits against Minnesota
MINNESOTA - New York (A)'s third baseman Chris Sabo accomplished a difficult feat in a game against Minnesota, hitting for the cycle to improve his career batting average to .221! A pitch from Sid Fernandez in the 2nd inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 404 feet from home plate in left-center. A single in the 3rd off Sid Fernandez accounted for his 2nd hit. A pitch from Sid Fernandez in the 6th inning left his bat for a double. A pitch from Jeff D. Robinson in the 8th inning left his bat for a triple. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Chris scored 2 runs, and he collected one RBI as well! He is hitting .277 this season, with 5 HR and 18 RBI. He's now the 84th player in league history to hit for the cycle! Andy Van Slyke was the last player to hit for the cycle, doing it 5/11/1995.
