The HOFFBL universe is waking up this morning to the announcement of the 1995 All-Star selections. Much to the dismay of the Mets faithful, Eric Young Sr. will not be joining C Mike Piazza to represent the NL in the Summer Classic. "If I said what I want to say, I will just end up getting fined.", Young told a NY Sports Talk Show host early Thursday morning after the announcement came out. "I look forward to the rest and will come back ready to compete in the second half." Young is top 10 in average and stolen bases. The Mets released a statement early Thursday stating, "Whomever made this decision is crazier than Yogi Berra."
The Mets announced the MLB debut of two of their highly anticipated prospects, 3B Edgard Alfonso and 1B Tony Clark. Clark is endearing himself to fans as he has hit safely in 7 out of his first 10 games, highlighted by his first 3 hit game against St. Louis. Alfonso has seen similar early success getting hits in 9 of his first 10 outings, including 3 multi hit games.
While this might be a lost season, Mets ownership hopes to get some experience for Alfonso and Clark. The duo are expected to be a central part of the Mets lineup for the next decade. The fan base will enjoy watching the new corner infielders but over the last few weeks the outcry for relief pitching has been echoing throughout The City That Never Sleeps. We will watch to see what bullpen moves the Mets make as we approach the trade deadline and move into an offseason that sees a lot of Free Agency money being freed up.
