SAN DIEGO - San Diego is without its right-hander Julio Machado for at least 7 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Ed Taubensee in a game against Houston. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Ruptured Elbow Ligament. This season Machado compiled an ERA of 2.05, going 3-2 in 0 starts. He fanned 35 while giving up 26 hits in 44 innings.
Saturday 8/6/1995: Huge blow for Oakland's Benes, career over
OAKLAND - It was one of baseball saddest days. Oakland's right-hander Andy Benes fell victim to a career ending injury in a game against Toronto on Saturday. He complained about pain after throwing a pitch to Greg Olson, then suddenly collapsed. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Torn Bicep Muscle. His ERA of 5.31 helped him to a 7-11 record this year. He struck out 73 and walked 67 in 140.2 innings. His career featured a record of 16-29 with an ERA of 5.55. Baseball will certainly miss this great player.
Wednesday 8/3/1995: Lloyd Moseby ropes 2000th career hit
HOUSTON - Houston's Lloyd Moseby showed a smile on his face after he got his 2000th career hit against St. Louis on Wednesday. He hit a three run homerun in the 4th off Morris Madden for number 2000. His best year so far was 1993 where he hit .306 with 28 homeruns and 111 RBI. 'I'm out of words. I'll probably realize it tomorrow, but for now I'm done.'

The American League's best player of the week was New York (A)'s Wil Cordero, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. He had an on base percentage of .550 and hit .526, while driving in 8 runs. Cordero has hit for a .279 average this season. He has 20 extra base hits along with 93 total bases, resulting in a .377 slugging percentage. Shawn Green wins his 1st Player of the Week award.
