Monday 8/15/1995: Rodriguez (BAL) and Keyser (MON) win P.O.W. award
The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to Baltimore's Henry A. Rodriguez this time, as the leftfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. He hit .500 with 6 RBI and slugged .917 in 24 at bats. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 12 game hitting streak right now. Rodriguez has walked 23 times this year and posts a .317 OBP. While batting .284, 135 for 475, he has driven in 72 runs. It's the 1st time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to Montreal's pitcher Brian Keyser. Brian went 2-0 with an ERA of 0.60, while fanning 4 in 15 innings of work. He hurled a shutout as well.
Sunday 8/14/1995: Matt Stairs uncorks five hits against Oakland
OAKLAND - Matt Stairs is among the best pure hitters in the game, but his 5 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself. Number 3 in the 5th inning, a shot estimated at 364 feet, cleared the wall in right field. His 5th hit, a three-run homerun off Josias Manzanillo in the 9th inning, landed an estimated 371 feet from home plate. He collected singles in the 1st inning , in the 3rd and in the 7th inning (one RBI). Matt did drive in 5 while scoring 2 runs on his own. This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 152 hits in 441 at bats, resulting in a .345 batting average. Cleveland improved its record to 57-61, scoring 8 runs on 15 hits.
Thursday 8/11/1995: Dante Bichette clubs three rockets
TEXAS - Dante Bichette powered Texas to a 12-0 win over Oakland. He did it in style by homering three times. Number 1 in the 1st inning, a shot estimated at 424 feet, cleared the wall in left-center. A 374 foot drive to left field marked his 2nd bomb, a solo homerun off Reggie Patterson in the 3rd inning. In the 5th inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Reggie Patterson. Dante collected 4 hits in 4 trips to the plate, scoring FOUR times and driving in 5 runs. So far this season he is batting .264 with 12 homers and 55 RBI.
