SEATTLE - Seattle is without its lefty Mark W. Davis for at least 4 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Bret Barberie in a game against Toronto. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Ruptured Bicep Tendon which will require surgery. Opposing players hit .239 against Mark W. this season. While posting an ERA of 3.95 he went 11-11 in 28 starts, fanning 198 and walking 92 hitters.
Monday 9/5/1995: Minnesota's Maddux wins Player of the Week award
Minnesota's leftfielder Albert Belle had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. Albert was on fire, hitting .444 with 3 HR and 13 RBI. While compiling an on base percentage of .392, Albert hit .303 and slugged .638. He has collected 115 runs batted in this year. He's 2nd in the American League in RBIs and 2nd in homeruns! Minnesota's pitcher Greg Maddux had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. He was in a zone all week, compiling an ERA of 0.00 while going 2-0. He pitched two shutouts! Greg has a record of 21-2 this season, with an ERA of 1.77. In 228.2 Innings he was able to strike out 159 batters. Greg has pitched 5 shutouts and 8 complete games. He's 2nd in the American League in ERA and 1st in wins!

ATLANTA - Atlanta's right-hander Greg Maddux is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Florida on just 2 hits. It's his 5th shutout this season, and the 34th time he has done it in his career. The bid for a no-hitter was broken up when Andres Thomas singled with two outs in the 9th inning. Maddux (21-2) was overpowering, fanning 11 while walking none, throwing 110 pitches. 'That was one of the best games of my career. I had my stuff working very well today.' The hitting star for Atlanta was first baseman Bob Horner, he stroked 3 hits in 3 AB, hitting two dingers, scoring FOUR runs and collecting 6 RBI. Atlanta scored 17 runs on 13 hits.

CINCINNATI - Cincinnati's right-hander Bill Gullickson is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking New York (N) on just one hit. It's his 4th shutout this season, and the 11th time he has done it in his career. 'Hey, that's my job! Everytime I take the mound I give the best I can. And my best stuff was too much for them today.' Gullickson (11-12) fanned 2 and walked 2, throwing 89 pitches. Tim Salmon helped Gullickson at the plate, he collected 3 hits in 3 trips to the plate, hitting a double, and driving in 2 runs. Cincinnati improved its record to 56-79, scoring 9 runs on 13 hits.
Sunday 9/4/1995: Robin Ventura nabs five hits against Texas
TEXAS - On Sunday, Detroit's third baseman Robin Ventura displayed his sensational ability to handle the bat against Texas, punishing their pitchers with five hits. Number 2 in the 3rd inning, a shot estimated at 377 feet, cleared the wall in right field. His 3rd hit, a two-run homerun off Brad Brink in the 5th inning, cleared the fence in right field. He had singles in the 1st inning (one RBI) , in the 7th and in the 8th (one RBI). Robin did drive in 6 while scoring 4 runs on his own. He's having a very good season so far, batting .342. Detroit scored 16 runs on 19 hits.

TORONTO - Toronto is without its right-hander Brian Fisher for at least 7 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Alex Ochoa in a game against New York (A). His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Ruptured Elbow Ligament. Brian has a record of 10-13 this season, with an ERA of 5.21. In 164 Innings he was able to strike out 86 batters.
