The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to Minnesota's Albert Belle this time, as the leftfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. He hit .500 with 17 RBI and slugged 1.273 in 22 at bats. While compiling an on base percentage of .370, Albert hit .283 and slugged .631. He has collected 79 runs batted in this year. He's 1st in the American League in RBIs and 3rd in homeruns! The National League Player of the Week award goes to Greg Maddux, one of Atlanta's best starting pitchers. Maddux was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 1.50. Along the way he struck out 14 in 18 innings. He hurled a shutout as well.
Friday 7/1/1996: Minnesota's Garrelts earns Pitcher of the Month award
