MINNESOTA - Minnesota is without its right-hander Paul McClellan for at least 6-7 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Kevin McReynolds in a game against Detroit. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Torn Tricep Muscle which will require surgery. Paul has a record of 6-5 this season, with an ERA of 3.00. In 117 Innings he was able to strike out 84 batters. Paul has pitched one shutout and 2 complete games.
Monday 7/11/1996: Oakland's Koskie wins Player of the Week award
Corey Koskie from Oakland wins his 1st Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the American League. Corey pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .526 with 2 HR and 10 RBI while slugging .895. His season features a batting average of .262 (62 hits in 237 AB), 12 doubles, no triples and 5 homeruns. Koskie collected 38 RBI and 28 runs as well. The National League Player of the Week award goes to Nomar Garciaparra, Pittsburgh's starting shortstop. Garciaparra helped his team with an average of .563 and 3 RBI in 16 at bats.
Friday 7/8/1996: Baltimore's Rodriguez severely injured
BALTIMORE - Baltimore's leftfielder Henry A. Rodriguez hurt himself in the 10th inning while diving for a batted ball. He got up slowly and had to leave the game. Henry A. Rodriguez will miss at least 9-10 weeks. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Fractured Hip. This year Rodriguez drove in 56 and scored 40 runs while batting .279 with 15 homeruns.
