Saturday 5/7/1997: Atlanta has no chance in a NO-HITTER by Bryan Harvey
ATLANTA - San Francisco's right-hander Bryan Harvey made some history today, firing a no-hitter against Atlanta. Their hitters found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, never having a chance against his overpowering stuff. Scott Servais spoiled the bid for a perfect game when he walked with 2 away in the 6th inning. Harvey (3-2) struck out 8 and issued 2 BB, throwing 70 of 116 pitches for strikes. 'Well, the ball went where I wanted it. I was able to hit the corners with all of my pitches. I'm so happy that it was enough to pitch such a great game.' San Francisco's first baseman Will Clark finished with 2 hits in 3 AB, homering once. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Harvey. The final score of the game was 1-0.
Saturday 5/7/1997: Detroit's McReynolds severely injured
DETROIT - Detroit's centerfielder Kevin McReynolds hurt himself in the 4th inning while diving for a batted ball. He got up slowly and had to leave the game. Kevin McReynolds will miss at least 6 weeks. Fractured Hand was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. He has hit 5 bombs while batting .220 this season. His 26 hits and 7 walks add up to a .264 on-base percentage.
