Tuesday 6/14/1997: Chicago (N)'s Miceli severely injured
CHICAGO (N) - Chicago (N) is without its right-hander Dan Miceli for at least 5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Barry Bonds in a game against San Francisco. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Strained Rotator Cuff Muscle which will require surgery. Opposing players hit .210 against Dan this season. While posting an ERA of 2.17 he went 3-0 in 0 starts, fanning 14 and walking 10 hitters.
Tuesday 6/14/1997: Garret Anderson nabs five hits against Seattle
SEATTLE - Garret Anderson hits 'em where they ain't. Seattle certainly agrees as Kansas City's centerfielder unloaded five hits, adding to his reputation of being one of the best pure hitters in the game. His 2nd hit, a GRAND SLAM off Todd Burns in the 2nd inning, landed an estimated 389 feet from home plate. In the 4th inning he belted a two-run double off Johnny Guzman. A pitch from Darrel Akerfelds in the 6th inning left his bat for a double. He had singles in the 1st inning and in the 8th (one RBI). Garret scored 4 runs, and he collected 7 RBI as well! He's having a very good season so far, batting .329. The final score of the game was 27-2.
Monday 6/13/1997: Mike Poehl fires 2-hitter against New York (N)
MONTREAL - Montreal's right-hander Mike Poehl is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. New York (N) found out the hard way, getting just 2 hits. Poehl 2nd shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 4th shutouts in his career. 'Pitching a great game is always a good thing. And it doesn't get much better than today.' Poehl (6-4) struck out 9 and walked none, throwing 74 of 116 pitches for strikes. Rondell White provided Montreal with the offense Poehl needed as he got 3 hits in 4 AB, and driving in 2 runs. Montreal improved its record to 37-26, scoring 6 runs on 10 hits.

MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee's first baseman Dave Nilsson will miss at least 4-5 weeks after he got hurt seriously while running hard toward second base. He began limping and then fell down, causing a scary moment for his teammates. He had to be carried off the field. After being taken to a local hospital, Nilsson was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Pulled Anterior Cruciate Ligament. Dave is hitting .281 this year, with 61 hits in 217 at bats. He has driven in 22 runs, slugging .392.
Monday 6/13/1997: Player of the Week honors go to Coomer and Rogers
Ron Coomer from Chicago (A) wins his 1st Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the American League. He had an on base percentage of .556 and hit .484, while driving in 12 runs. He now has homered in 3 consecutive games as well! St. Louis' pitcher Kenny Rogers had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. Rogers was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 0.50. Along the way he struck out 9 in 18 innings. He hurled a shutout as well.

OAKLAND - Oakland's catcher Darren Daulton will miss at least 6 weeks after he got hurt seriously while running hard toward second base. He began limping and then fell down, causing a scary moment for his teammates. He had to be carried off the field. Daulton was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Torn Calf Muscle. This year Daulton drove in 15 and scored 21 runs while batting .248 with 2 longballs.

PHILADELPHIA - Lloyd Moseby hits 'em where they ain't. Philadelphia certainly agrees as Houston's centerfielder unloaded six hits, adding to his reputation of being one of the best pure hitters in the game. He collected singles in the 1st , in the 2nd inning , in the 3rd , in the 6th inning , in the 7th inning and in the 9th . Lloyd scored 3 runs. He didn't collect any RBIs, though. He is hitting .275 this season, with 4 HR and 37 RBI. The final score of the game was 19-10.
