The long rebuild of the Pirates has concluded. We shall see how long this team can be competitive. Introducing the new and improved Starting Pirates Lineup.
Starting Catcher
Todd "Tank" Pratt- 30 year old veteran came via free agency. Signing a 4 year 60 mil deal with the club.
Starting 1st baseman
John Olerud 29 year old 1st baseman was acquired by Pittsburg via trade at the deadline. The slugger has already agreed to a 5 year 52 mil deal with Pittsburgh. Olerud is excited to join a team he feels poised to be competitive for many seasons.
Starting 2nd baseman
John Valentin- 30 year old gloveman was brought to Pittsburg at the deadline and is excited to play in a loaded defensive infield. GM Stooolfan discussed the signing as key to shoring up the infield for the long term with players who were successful with both offense and defense.
Starting 3rd Baseman
Kazuhiro Kiyohara- 29 year old slugger came to Pittsburgh via free agency. Along with Pratt he signed a huge 4 year 60 mil dollar contract. Stooolfan stated it was important to land strong free agents to compliment our teams young players.
Starting Shortstop
Nomar "Nomah" Garciaparra the 24 year old was drafted in 1st round, 4th overall pick, by Pittsburgh in 1994. A staple at shortstop with incredible defense and the ability to hit for average. Nomar looks to build his career and home in Pittsburg for many years to come.
Starting Leftfielder
Richie Sexson the 22 year old was drafted in 1st round, 3rd overall pick, by Pittsburgh in 1993. The slugger is already developing nicely and will be a staple in the Pirates offense for many years to come.
Starting Centerfielder
Ray Lankford the 30 year old was acquired via trade with San Fran in the offseason. GM Stooolfan expresses how important it was to acquire such a Star player. I felt the organization had the cash and was able to buy a player from a financially struggling team and really start changing the culture in Pittsburg of trying to win. Especially, with all the other GM’s complaining about a potential tanking scandal.
Starting Right Fielder
Jason "Giambino" Giambi the 26 year old was acquired via trade from Texas. The slugger has fit right in with the team and is crushing the ball. Another steal that GM Stooolfan was able to acquire.
The Pirates offense is looking up! Stay tuned for the article about the new and improved Rotation and elite relief corps.
