Atlanta fans, is Don in his last year? Can the Braves knock off the Giants one more time to give Don a chance at a 4th ring? These are some of the questions fans of this guys amazing career must be asking.
Already with three rings, one of Don's best friends on the team, long time catcher D Valle was overheard saying, all Don wants to cap his career is one more ring.
At 40 years old, Don is posting a good season thus far 13-9, and it looks like the run at 300 wins is gonna come up short as he needs 7 wins in the next 30 games to achieve that.
That said for career stats, currently he is #10 in ERA (2.42) # 15 in wins (293) and #23 in shutouts (46).
Don came into the league with a bang, winning Rookie of the Year honors in 1980, and progressing to getting a Cy Young in 85, the guy just dominated. Unfortunately for him he rarely got offensive support as 85 - 92 he had a 1.82 ERA and only 2 20 win seasons.
On May 7th in 1992, he pitched a perfect game. One of the few pitchers to ever do so.
If Don retires at the end of the season, we should all tip our hat to a guy that should be a future hall of famer.
Thank you Don for all your years of giving Atlanta fans joy each time you took the mound, never ever giving up hope that you would get them a win!
