So the original charter said running a negative balance would cause you to get fired, alas that isn't an option.
What should be done to punish people that have a negative balance?
Should their picks be auctioned off?

I thought we discussed this a long time ago, or maybe it was in conversation, but generally the game does a good job in not letting you sign players. It just means you can't sign players and improve.

The problem is have with this is laid out pretty good by what Boston did last season.
You add a ton of talent over budget and go incredibly negative in cash. 50+ mil.
You realize you can't afford to dig out of that hole with assets so you sell off you team. Tank for 3 seasons with no penalties and by then you have a positive balance.
Basically a large loophole if their is no penalty for doing this.

it's a function of various things, but i was unable to resign Hamelin, mainly because my revenue (current season) was right at future payroll.
As long as future payroll is less than revenue, there's room to extend players, but not sign FA

So no more conversation on this.
We are okay as a league with a team going negative 54 million in cash and selling off a team and not getting back positive, just rebuilding for 3 years and the cash sort itself out.
Nobody is getting fired as we can barely keep the league full. Seems silly to me to not have some sort of punishment.
Guess I will be abusing this next time I wanna go all in.

I agree, we need to come up with some sort of negative consequences for running negative cash. We certainly can't fire GM's, but having consequences in place would be fine. If you lose 1-5 mil you lose your 3rd? 5-15 you lose your 2nd? 15-25 your first? 25+ your next two firsts? We need to make it consequential to where teams will think twice before doing it, and have systems in place to prevent the "oops I traded the pick already". I think there is something easy to institute here. |
