The days of hot chocolate by the fire, shoveling the front walk, and stepping off the curb into a freezing puddle are gone at last. Opening Day is upon us once again and the excitement in Flushing, Queens is reaching a crescendo.
While getting a fresh team tattoo, team owner, Jefe Jamieson was asked what the Outlook for the season was. "Did you mean Outlook as in the season's email plans, or the team outlook where anything short of the playoffs would be considered a failure."
Met's manager Ted Lasso echoed the boss saying, "Playoffs? Playoffs? Dog diggity right we want to make the playoffs!"
The sentiment around the city is the team may have done enough in the post season. Newbie to the Mets is veteran Shane Reynolds. He is coming off a disappointing 8-14 5.40 ERA season in the Bronx but the Mets believe that he has the talent to turn things around in a hurry, he will be handed the ball for the season opener.
Behind Reynolds will be a somewhat revamped defense that will accommodate the bats of Orlando Miller and Gregg Jefferies. Jefferies will be playing 2nd base with Miller playing short. Tejada will move to 3rd with Edgar Alfonzo playing right, starting in place of an aging AL Chambers. The most glaring absence for fans that tuned out of Mets news until Opening Day will be surprised to not see Mike Piazza. If fans want to see Piazza, they can hop the train to the Bronx...and stay there.
As always, a new season brings new surprises. Hopefully, by the end of the season the Mets will be the biggest surprise in HOFFBL.
