Friday 9/30/1999: Gary Sheffield socks five hits for Toronto
BALTIMORE - Gary Sheffield is among the best pure hitters in the game, but his 5 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself. In the 1st inning he belted a double off Brian Keyser. Number 2 in the 5th inning, a shot estimated at 398 feet, cleared the wall in left field. A 441 foot drive to center field marked his 3rd hit, a three-run homerun off Dario Veras in the 6th inning. ATLANTA - Atlanta's players had every reason to congratulate Stan Javier, who reached a milestone today, collecting his 2000th career hit! His hit in the 1st inning was a single off Jon Lieber. Along with his 2000 hits, Stan collected 62 homeruns and 651 RBI in 12 seasons. 'I still remember my first hit. But the one today is something special. I'll definitely keep that ball!'
