Let's see how each of the AL teams did in the start of this new divisional era of HOFFBL.
AL East
Baltimore Orioles:
1st Round Pick: LF Frank Howard
2nd Round Pick: P Dennis Bennett
3rd Round Pick: SS Denis Menke
4th Round Pick: C Ron Brand
5th Round Pick: SS Jack Kubiszyn
Frank Howard is just the future slugger that the Orioles needed for years to come.
I know there were some GM's here that were surprised Dan chose Frank Howard over Shigeo Nagashima, but for the Orioles' needs, this was a very good choice. The rebuilding Orioles have some nice young talent now. Some of those players are now in the majors and the others should be up within a few seasons. Despite some nice hitters the Orioles have for the future, they were missing a clean-up hitting slugger that can be a big run producer.
And this is where Howard comes in. He should be the dependable 40-45+ homers per season hitter that the Orioles can plug in for more run production. Nagashima is great, but his strong winning desire is one critical negative that Howard does not have, so DRowe should not have to worry about not being able to extend him later on.
In the second round, Dan selected Dennis Bennett, who could turn into a solid back-end starter or reliever. He's also a lefty and could get more duration bumps before he is major league ready. Very solid pick.
The Orioles got Dennis Menke in the 3rd round. Menke recently got a nice PD including a hits increase to good. He was still a decent pick for an early 3rd rounder. He doesn't have much power or speed, but is versatile defensively and can already play all over the infield, as well as right field so far.
4th round pick Ron Brand could be a decent backup catcher and 5th round pick Jack Kubisyn may not make it to the major leagues without some PD help.
Dan had a very solid draft, given his position with the #1 pick. Howard should turn into a big part of the Orioles' future.

Boston Red Sox:
1st Round Pick: P Dick Hughes
2nd Round Pick: P Tony Cloninger
3rd Round Pick: Traded to Pirates
4th Round Pick: P Doug Gallagher
5th Round Pick: C Orlando McFarlane
Break made a great 1st round pick for his position with Dick Hughes. Hughes should turn into a stud once he gets a walks talent increase. He's also loyal, which is a plus. And he's young enough that Break can spend a few seasons putting duration work into him in spring training. Great mid-1st round pick for sure.
In the 2nd round, Break took another pitcher in Tony Cloninger. Like Hughes, Cloninger could also use a walks talent increase to become a potential back-end starter. He's at B duration already, which is good, and he's only 17, so there is a lot of time for him to develop.
Break traded his 3rd round pick to the Pirates. 4th round pick Doug Gallagher has already suffered a bad PD to his home runs, which Break probably won't reverse, which thus makes him very unlikely to make the majors. 5th round pick Orlando McFarlane has backup catcher potential at best.
Break made a steal in the 1st round and a good 2nd round pick, which makes his draft above average for sure.
Red Sox 1958 1st Round Pick Grade: A
Red Sox 1958 Draft Grade: A-
New York Yankees:
1st Round Pick: Traded to Giants
2nd Round Pick: RF Dave Nicholson
3rd Round Pick: RF Jose Tartabull
4th Round Pick: 2B Chico H. Ruiz
5th Round Pick: P Ken R. Hunt
Chris traded his 1st round pick to the Giants in a draft day deal. In the 2nd round, he selected Dave Nicholson. Nicholson has decent power and walk potential, but the fair in hits could certainly limit his potential. A hits increase to average could make him more useful, but don't count on him to be definite future starter material.
In the 3rd round, Chris took Jose Tartabull, who could be a decent backup in the future, unless he gets some PD help. The strong winning desire isn't great, but I got a feeling Chris may have selected Tartabull due to his last name...
4th round pick Chico Ruiz has backup potential right now, but with a nice PD, he could be useful, especially with the speed he has. 5th round pick has decent relief potential, but having fair talent in walks isn't particularly great.
Chris didn't have his best draft, but with the Yankees team he has and all the championships he has already won, what more does he really need?
Yankees 1958 1st Round Pick Grade: N/A
Yankees 1958 Draft Grade: C
Washington Senators:
1st Round Pick: C Tom Haller
2nd Round Pick: P Dave Giusti
3rd Round Pick: P Dwight Siebler
4th Round Pick: P Buster Narum
5th Round Pick: 1B Charlie Dees
Tom Haller could turn into the next elite catcher in HOFFBL.
Adam made quite a steal in the 1st round by drafting Tom Haller, whom I seriously regret passing on. Haller would then get a monster PD that turned him into a beast. He is now the Senators' catcher of the future and one of the top hitting prospects in all of HOFFBL.
In the 2nd round, Adam chose reliever Dave Giusti. Giusti has good relief potential and could get converted into a starter if Adam raises his relief duration to A. Let's see if Adam ends up doing so.
Adam chose Dwight Siebler in the 3rd round, whose potential isn't great. It will be interesting to see whether the talent increase goes toward his hits or walks. But unless he gets PD help, Siebler will probably be a bullpen arm.
4th round pick Buster Narum has average potential...literally, and 5th round pick Charlie Dees will probably be a bench-warmer if he even gets to the major leagues at some point.
Adam didn't have the top draft of all teams, but he may have made the best overall pick with Haller.
Senators 1958 1st Round Pick Grade: A (the big PD was not factored in by the way)
Senators 1958 Draft Grade: B+
AL West
Chicago White Sox:
1st Round Pick: P Ron Perranoski
2nd Round Pick: 1B Joe Pepitone
3rd Round Pick: 2B Horace Clarke
4th Round Pick: P Morrie Steevens
5th Round Pick: SS Al Moran
Mark made a solid late 1st round pick with Ron Perranoski, whom he successfully converted into a starter during spring training. Unfortunately, Perranoski recently suffered a CEI, which will have a significant effect on his development going forward. Still a very good late 1st round pick originally.
Joe Pepitone was Mark's 2nd round selection. He could definitely use a hits talent increase soon to go along with good talent in home runs. That decision though will not be Mark's to make. As it turns out, Pepitone will soon get traded across town to the North Side Cubs. We'll see if Matt A. gives him that hits increase.
In the 3rd round, Mark took Horace Clark. By the end of the 3rd round, there usually aren't many great selections left, but despite having B/B running/stealing, Clark's strong winning desire is a negative for him, and especially when combined with the talent ratings he started with. There weren't many better choices by then for Mark, so I'll give him a pass for that, but still, Clark probably won't end up being particularly useful for him.
4th round pick Morrie Stevens will likely turn into a mop-up reliever at best and 5th round pick Al Moran is backup depth.
Mark had a decent draft and hopefully for his sake, the Pepitone trade will bring in a good haul of useful players.
White Sox 1958 1st Round Pick Grade: A
White Sox 1958 Draft Grade: B
Cleveland Indians:
1st Round Pick: P Sonny Siebert
2nd Round Pick: P Al McBean
3rd Round Pick: P Herm Starrette
4th Round Pick: CF Larry Elliot
5th Round Pick: SS Larry Brown
Ashes' draft started with Sonny Siebert in the 1st round. Siebert is a solid pitcher, who could one day be part of the Indians' middle or back-end rotation. He's on the older side though for a rookie, so it will be interesting to see how his development will progress.
In the 2nd round, Ashes selected Al McBean, who has already suffered a bad PD to his hits. McBean originally had good potential to be a solid reliever and still could if Ashes ends up reversing the PD before it's too late.
The Indians' 3rd round pick was Herm Starrette, who could become a good pitcher if he gets some PD help. At the very least, he could be extra bullpen depth down the road.
4th round pick Larry Elliot looks to be a bench-warmer and 5th round pick Larry Brown should join him there as well.
Ashes' draft wasn't great, but Siebert could become a useful piece in the future.

Detroit Tigers:
1st Round Pick: CF Don Lock
2nd Round Pick: P Pete Mikkelsen
3rd Round Pick: P Norm Bass
4th Round Pick: C Bob Tillman
5th Round Pick: P Dick LeMay
Trevor's draft began with the selection of Don Lock in the 1st round. Lock was a solid late 1st round pick that could definitely use a hits talent increase to become a stud. He's 21 though, so he's a bit older than some of the other rookie draftees. I'm not big on Lock having the very inconsistent/suffers combo for consistency and clutch (which I personally don't like at all), but hopefully, Lock will still be able to persevere through all that. He should also provide solid defense in the outfield.
In the 2nd round, Trevor took Pete Mikkelsen, who could become a decent reliever with a talent increase to either home runs or walks. He could also have starter potential if Trevor uses spring training to increase his duration. He's a decent pick for a late 2nd rounder.
Trevor's 3rd round pick was Norm Bass. Bass fits the same mold of Mikkelsen as a pitcher that needs a talent increase and is more likely to be a reliever in the future. It will be interesting to see if Trevor puts any points into either of them or simply hopes the PD luck will happen at some point.
4th round pick Bob Tillman could be a future backup catcher and 5th round pick Dick LeMay recently got a nice PD increase to his home runs, but he will probably end up being additional bullpen depth.
Trevor's draft was decent, but not great. If Lock gets that hits talent increase though, he will be a stud.

Kansas City Athletics:
1st Round Pick: P Gaylord Perry
2nd Round Pick: P Denny Lemaster
3rd Round Pick: 2B Chuck Schilling
4th Round Pick: P Galen Cisco
5th Round Pick: P Jim Dickson
Noah is hoping Gaylord Perry can turn into a big part of the A's future success.
Noah selected Gaylord Perry third overall in the 1st round. I was honestly surprised Perry didn't get any brilliants, especially after I gave him brilliant home runs and walks in LBB, but whatever. Anyway, Perry looks to be a very good pitcher, has very good character ratings, A duration and 8 velocity. Noah won't be complaining about any of that. He may have been taken a bit high, but there really weren't that many pitchers in the draft better than him, so you can't blame Noah for taking Perry.
Could he have been better off taking a pitcher that was B/G/A, G/B/A, G/A/B, B/A/G, A/G/B or A/B/G and then using a 40 point talent increase to get the average talent to good? Yeah he could have and Noah always has a ton of points, so it could have been very useful for him. But alas, he decided to take the cheaper option and maybe use his points on other players. So while I think Perry went higher than he should have, he's still a very good pick regardless.
In the 2nd round, Noah went with another pitcher in Denny Lemaster. Lemaster could certainly use a talent increase to his walks, but is a solid pitcher regardless. He has B duration, decent velocity and decent character ratings. A pretty solid 2nd round pick generally speaking.
Noah's 3rd round pick was Chuck Schilling, who could be more useful with a hits talent increase. He could be a nice role player though. He is loyal and has good defensive range as well. I would have definitely considered him with my 3rd round pick if he hadn't been taken then.
4th round pick Galen Cisco is probably one of the best 4th round picks from this draft, but will probably become extra bullpen depth. 5th round pick Jim Dickson will allow some walks, but he could be another reliever to have around as extra depth.
Again, I'm not big on Noah taking Perry that early in the draft, when he could have taken someone with a brilliant talent and an average talent instead of all goods and then used a talent increase on the one average talent. In sim leagues that include reward camps, this is a critical factor to always keep in mind, but hopefully Noah will catch on more and learn to make more use of reward camps. Noah's other picks were good though overall. The A's need all the good prospects they can get right now.
