The American League Player of the Week award goes to Ken Griffey Jr., California's starting leftfielder. Ken pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .412 with 4 HR and 6 RBI while slugging 1.176. The National League's best player of the week was Milwaukee's Sammy Sosa, who wins the award for the 5th time in his career. Sosa helped his team with an average of .438 and 10 RBI in 16 at bats. He has hit 15 homeruns while batting .296 this season. His 99 hits and 28 walks add up to a .346 on-base percentage.
Friday 7/1/2000: Boston's Ramos earns Pitcher of the Month award
Winner of this months American League Pitcher of the Month award is Boston's Edgar Ramos. His ERA of just 1.93 helped him to a 5-1 record in June. He worked 37.1 innings, striking out 17 hitters while walking 7. Edgar pitched a shutout as well. This season Ramos compiled an ERA of 3.75, going 7-4 in 16 starts. MINNESOTA - Minnesota's players were scared when they had to watch Jim Edmonds suffer a serious injury when he dove for a ball in the game against California. He collapsed in pain and was helped off the field. Edmonds will probaby miss 9 weeks. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Broken Hand. Edmonds has hit for a .280 average this season. He has 45 extra base hits along with 178 total bases, resulting in a .622 slugging percentage.
Monday 6/27/2000: Player of the Week honors go to Greene and Munoz
