In 13 years of big league action so far, Luis A. has compiled a batting average of .280, along with 298 homeruns and 1130 RBI. Monday 7/11/2000: Williams and Rodriguez win Player of the Week award
Chicago (A)'s rightfielder Bernie F. Williams had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. Bernie F. went 11 for 21 (.524), while hitting 2 HR and collecting 8 RBI. The National League's best player of the week was Florida's Ivan Rodriguez, who wins the award for the 5th time in his career. Ivan pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .500 with 2 HR and 6 RBI while slugging 1.000.
Friday 7/8/2000: Baltimore's Lopez severely injured
BALTIMORE - Baltimore's season has taken a hit after one of their best players, catcher Javy Lopez, injured himself while rounding a base. He is likely to miss 4 weeks. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Torn Thigh Muscle. Surgery will be performed next week. Lopez has hit 9 homeruns this year while batting .283. He adds 23 doubles, along with 28 runs scored.
