Breaking News
Saturday 7/30/2000: Mike York quiets Seattle bats with shutout
TORONTO - Mike York had some fun again. Seattle hitters did not. Toronto's right-hander gave up just one hit in his 2nd shutout of the season. He now has 4 career shutouts in 210 games started. York (8-4) fanned 7 and walked none, throwing 112 pitches. 'I didn't feel that I had good stuff while warming up. But it got better the more I threw the ball. I guess I was lucky.' Toronto's rightfielder Darryl Hamilton finished with 3 hits in 4 AB, hitting a double, and collecting 2 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of York. The final score of the game was 6-0.
Thursday 7/28/2000: Felix Jose uncorks five hits against Colorado
FLORIDA - Felix Jose hits 'em where they ain't. Colorado certainly agrees as Florida's rightfielder unloaded five hits, adding to his reputation of being one of the best pure hitters in the game. His 1st hit, off Scott Karl in the 1st inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in left field. A pitch from Scott Karl in the 3rd inning left his bat for a RBI double. A pitch from Ryan Kohlmeier in the 7th inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 409 feet from home plate in right-center. His 5th hit was a double off Ryan Kohlmeier in the 8th inning. He had a single in the 5th, plating two runners. Felix did drive in 5 while scoring 3 runs on his own. He now has a total of 113 hits this season, accounting for a .322 batting average. Florida scored 9 runs on 16 hits.
Thursday 7/28/2000: California has no chance in a 2-hitter by Chris Carpenter
CALIFORNIA - Kansas City's right-hander Chris Carpenter is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking California on just 2 hits. It's his 3rd shutout this season, and the 6th time he has done it in his career. 'I had a good grip on the ball today and I was able to put it where I wanted. That kept them out of balance.' Carpenter (8-4) struck out 5 and issued 4 BB, throwing 73 of 126 pitches for strikes. Vinny Castilla provided Kansas City with the offense Carpenter needed as he finished 2 for 5, hitting two dingers, scoring two runs with 4 RBI. Kansas City improved its record to 61-41, scoring 12 runs on 18 hits.
