In 27 at bats he hit .444 with 4 HR and 11 RBI. Jones has walked 63 times this year and posts a .443 OBP. While batting .349, 166 for 476, he has driven in 103 runs. He's 1st in the American League in batting, 5th in homeruns and 7th in RBI! The National League Player of the Week award goes to Jeromy Burnitz, Los Angeles (N)'s starting rightfielder. OAKLAND - Chicago (A)'s first baseman Frank E. Thomas already had some highlights in his career, and today he added another one, getting his 2000th career hit. His hit in the 7th inning was a triple off Dan Wheeler. His best year so far was 1999 where he hit .326 with 44 homeruns and 131 RBI. 'I'm out of words. I'll probably realize it tomorrow, but for now I'm done.'
Tuesday 8/16/2000: Philadelphia's Gonzalez severely injured
PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia's shortstop Alex S. Gonzalez will miss the rest of the season. He injured himself running the bases in the game between Philadelphia and San Francisco. The injury didn't seem to be serious the moment it happened. But suddenly Gonzalez collapsed in pain and had to be carried off the field. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Broken Knee. He has hit 4 bombs while batting .237 this season. His 51 hits and 23 walks add up to a .320 on-base percentage.

BOSTON - Mike Mussina had some fun again. REAL fun. Boston hitters did not. Detroit's right-hander fired a no-hitter in his 1st shutout of the season. He now has 2 career shutouts in 177 games started. Mussina (2-3) fanned 7 and walked 1, throwing 100 pitches. 'Well, the ball went where I wanted it. I was able to hit the corners with all of my pitches. I'm so happy that it was enough to pitch such a great game.' The hitting star for Detroit was centerfielder Dmitri Young, he went 2 for 4, hitting a homerun, doubling once, scoring two runs and driving in 2 runs. The final score of the game was 8-0.
