NEW YORK (N) - New York (N) is without its right-hander Kevin Millwood for at least 4-5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Eric Young Sr. in a game against Florida. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. New York (N) wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Millwood had suffered a Ruptured Tricep Tendon. Opposing players hit .282 against Kevin this season. While posting an ERA of 4.95 he went 7-12 in 28 starts, fanning 142 and walking 42 hitters.
Monday 9/5/2000: California's Hundley wins Player of the Week award
The American League's best player of the week was California's Todd Hundley, who wins the award for the 5th time in his career. In 23 at bats he hit .348 with 4 HR and 12 RBI. Todd has gone 138 for 502 (.275) this season, hitting 21 taters and driving in 92 runs. He has scored 85 runs on his own. Florida's first baseman Jerome Walton had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. Jerome went 11 for 20 (.550), while hitting 3 HR and collecting 11 RBI.
Sunday 9/4/2000: San Diego's Carpenter severely injured
SAN DIEGO - San Diego's right-hander Cris Carpenter suffered a severe injury on Sunday and will be out for at least 6-7 weeks. In the 6th of the game against Los Angeles (N) he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Bone Chips Elbow was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Cris has a record of 3-4 this season, with an ERA of 6.98. In 87.2 Innings he was able to strike out 67 batters.
Sunday 9/4/2000: Tim Salmon (CAL) will miss 4-5 weeks
CALIFORNIA - Texas' Jeff Zimmerman drilled California's centerfielder Tim Salmon in the 3rd inning. He was slow getting up and had to leave the game. Tim Salmon will miss at least 4-5 weeks. After being taken to a local hospital, Salmon was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Broken Hand. He has hit 6 bombs while batting .213 this season. His 93 hits and 54 walks add up to a .322 on-base percentage.

LOS ANGELES (N) - Los Angeles (N)'s centerfielder Brian McRae will miss about 9 weeks after he hurt himself badly in the 5th inning of the game between Los Angeles (N) and New York (N). He dove for a drive off the bat of Chad Curtis, and immediately signaled that he's not OK after hitting the ground. SEATTLE - Seattle is without its right-hander Matt Mantei for at least 5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Kenny Lofton in a game against Chicago (A). His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Spasms Back which will require surgery.
