This trade is final once I get confirmation from Chris that I'm understanding the constitution correctly:
The Rank of the Reserved Player will be determined by the Commissioner, which is generally based on the order of the computer picks. For example, if the Yankees have the 21st overall pick in the 1985 draft and reserves Bernie Williams, who is ranked #3, the Yankees' Draft Day Jump Fee would be 18 FPR points.
Other Effects and Draft Day Compensation
In addition to utilizing the team's earliest first round pick to reserve the player, the reserving team will be forced to forfeit draft picks, depending on the the amount of the Draft Day Jump Fee:
0 - 3: Forfeiture of earliest third round pick
4 - 10: Forfeiture of earliest second round pick
11 - 20: Forfeiture of earliest second and earliest third round picks
>>>> 20: Forfeiture of earliest second and earliest third round picks + next available first round pick
....
LAN trades: 2007 LANs 1st and PITs 2007 2nd
FLA trades FLA via KCR 2006 1st
...
Assuming Kershaw is #1 prospect. I would be moving up 20 spots from pick 21 to pick #1, costing me pick 21, my earliest 2nd and 3rd, while preserving my "next available first round pick".

you get to keep your 2006 too? Don’t hate the player, hate the game. Smart on Florida’s part. I’m going to be worse next year and he will likely get a free 2nd for only dropping a spot or two.

If you don't make this trade, you use your 30th pick to reserve Kershaw. Assuming Kershaw is #1, the jump fee is 29. Total cost is 10 + 74 + 29 = 113. Being that the jump fee is 29, you would use your 30th and forfeit your 2006 2nd, 2006 3rd and 2007 1st.
If you make this trade, gaining the FLA 1st at #9, the jump fee drops to 8 and you would forfeit your 2006 2nd. You would keep your 2006 1st at 30 and the 2007 1st as well but that's being traded.
Either way you'd be giving up your 2007 1st.
You would get to keep your 30th overall pick and 2006 3rd but also trade away a 2007 2nd as well. This seems like a wash only to preserve 20 FPR points. You're probably not going to be able to reserve anyone meaningful in the future other than cashing in FPR for reward points.
I'm not sure what FLA gains out of this so I'm tempted to void this for that reason alone.
Not unless this is the KCR 1st.

It’s not pick 9 it’s pick 21.
Worst case scenario he drops 9 spots for a Free 2nd round pick.
Clarification Edit:
After this trade I would forfeit pick 21 and keep pick 30. Losing my 2006 2nd and 3rd.
With the new points rule. Part of the motivation is to cash in the extra points, to get positive for opening day 2007.

In that case the jump fee is 20 at worst and you'd be using the 21st pick, keeping the 30th pick and forfeiting your 2nd and 3rd. You're trading away your 2007 1st and a 2007 2nd.
The trade basically lets you keep your 30th pick and you give up a 2007 2nd in order to do so.

Correct. Seems like a win win.
Especially when we get worse and FLA get a mid 20’s 2007 pick.

My farm system is bereft of talent and I’m gaining an extra dart throw by MAYBE picking fractionally later in NEXT YEARS 1st. Now if someone has a compelling argument why I shouldn’t make this deal outside of just not wanting LA to be able to pick Kershaw, I’m all ears. This is NOT my 9th pick. It’s the 21st pick I traded for. Anyone??

Basically giving up a second round pick to move up 4-6 picks? Makes sense for both of us. I passed on Chan Ho Park in 1994 to reserve Kershaw here. This cant be any surprise for anyone paying attention. Fun trivia: Did you know Clayton Kershaw and Matt Stafford grew up and played sports together...AS mentioned on every single Fox Telecast forever!
