So one of the issues of doing camps is that it is extremely time consuming to update the Player Log and I am sure it is a PITA for you guys to check the Player Log to see if a player has been camped when looking at players to use freebies on, use points during the normal course of business and especially during trade talks.
I also wonder what the point is of updating the logs for camps that have no limits, such as Player Development Reversals (PDRs), Fielding Percentage updates and Character Ratings (which have become standard Halloween freebies).
So, I would like to slay all of those dragons by utilizing a new system of publishing camps. The goal is to ultimately delete the Player Log board and associated threads altogether. No more. Gone. El fin. My ideas are as follows:
- I will no longer log PDRs or Fielding Pct camps, I will simply process them in the Camps thread by saying "Completed on 4/3/1979" and update the Reward Points thread. I will start posting the sim dates because I believe it will still be necessary to track them so as to continue to allow for freebie PDRs, that is, free reversals to a rating that was just reversed within the past 30 sim days.
- I am seeking your input as to how you would like to see camps are displayed in the future. Whatever option we choose, they will appear in the game and on the player pages.
--- Player Nicknames, Simple Abbreviations. The Nickname field can handle 14 characters, so we can do it a couple ways. Using simple abbreviations will allow for Potential, Secondary and Character camps to be displayed by simply inserting "PSSCCC" in the Nickname field. We can potentially not worry about which ratings they are associated with because you can only do 1 potential increase and the 2 secondary increases can be to the same rating. So which ratings they are associated with are technically irrelevant. This would mean that "Don Mattingly" would instead read "Don 'PSSCCC' Mattingly".
--- Player Nicknames, Detailed Abbreviations. Again, the Nickname field can handle 14 characters, there is another way. Using detailed abbreviations will allow for Potential, Secondary and Character camps, and which ratings they are associated with, to be displayed by inserting "PbSrSsCtCpCc" in the Nickname field. For example, for P: H=Hits, 2=Doubles, 3=Triples, 4=Home Runs, B=Walks, K=Strikeouts ... for S: 2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9 = Fielding Range, C=Catcher Arm, O=Outfield Arm; R=Running Speed; S=Stealing Ability ... for C: T=Team Leadership, P=Clutch Performance, C=Consistency. This would mean that "Don Mattingly" would instead read "Don 'PbSrSsCtCpCc' Mattingly".
The Player Nickname options would show up in the game at the top of the player card and on the website at the top of the player page. These are the most visible options, but they may look odd and possibly get messy -- once we get to holiday rewards that go beyond max camps, there will be no room, so we could potentially disregard Character ratings, especially since which ratings they are associated are technically irrelevant.
--- Player History, Simple Text. Brian has created some sick code, and after some massaging, that could allow me to literally click a button that would add a string of text to the top of the player history page which could read: "Don Mattingly has had reward camps applied to: Potential, Secondary, Secondary, Character, Character, Character..." and then the rest of the history text would follow.
--- Player History, Detailed Text. Brian's code could potentially be modified to allow for additional text. The text string would be applied to the top of the player history page which could read: "Don Mattingly has had reward camps applied to: Potential to Walks, Secondary to Running Speed, Secondary to Stealing Ability, Character to Team Leadership, Character to Clutch Performance, Character to Consistency..." and then the rest of the history text would follow.
The Player History options would show up in the game in under the "Show History" button next to "SCOUTING REPORT" and on the website at the bottom of the player page. These may not be the most visible options but they are easier on the eyes. This would require keeping a master list somewhere, but having a button to automatically parse data and produce output could come in handy in the future ... for example, we could quickly create team reports depicting each team's player camps.
So yea, a lot to think about. I need your help to keep my job simple. Let me know your thoughts.
