Monday 7/25/1990: Jackson and Maddux win Player of the Week award
Danny Jackson of Cleveland wins his 1st Player of the Week award for dominating American League's hitters the entire week. Danny went 2-0 with an ERA of 1.62, while fanning 14 in 16.2 innings of work. He hurled a shutout as well. The Player of the Week award in the National League goes to Atlanta's Greg Maddux this time, as the pitcher displayed the best pitching perfomance in his league. Greg went 2-0 with an ERA of 0.00, while fanning 16 in 18 innings of work. He pitched two shutouts!
Friday 7/22/1990: Atlee Hammaker shuts out Texas on 2 hits
TEXAS - Kansas City's lefty Atlee Hammaker is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Texas on just 2 hits. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 3rd time he has done it in his career. 'I really like to play baseball, and I love the way I was able to play it today.' Hammaker (6-3) fanned 4 and walked 1, throwing 107 pitches. Kansas City's catcher Mike Diaz got 2 hits in 4 AB, hitting a homerun, and collecting 2 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Hammaker. Kansas City scored 4 runs on 8 hits.
