Can someone explain how you get Loyalty and Desire for Winner? Rebuilding and small market teams like Cincinnati have a really hard time with these. Should SP- Pettitte be Average in Loyal at least cause he played 15 out of 18 games with the NYY?? Yes. He should be loyal. I agree, but I dont go through those often though in the draft, just one of the things I forget to check. Also I think it's one of those commish calls imho for gripes

Ya. Thats what gripes are for.
You do talents. If we care enough we can gripe character or speed and defense.

I do think we should post the requirements for talents. I think people should be able to gripe for players theyd like to gripe for using the info that actual makes a difference

both. Chris is gonna post the document of what we talked about soon(tm) with the ratings, we just didn't finish it. Some of our discussions have been in chat and need to be put into the final document, as he wants people to understand how it is done so that if I goof on a person, it'll be easy for someone to check based on the document.

Yea, we can't be 100% perfect, but that's why I offer this 1-2 day long griping session. Good for transparency.
Speaking of which, I'll post/sticky what Brian and I used for this season.

So not a 7 year run period? I don't understand what the number of games has to do with anything in those said 7 years. That is what averages is for. If someone played 161 games their 162 game average would be almost identical to their actual stats.
And isn't gripes for the masses to go through and find the anomalys that deviate from career stats?

Yes if someone played 7 games a season and got 2 HRs in those 7 games I agree that they should not be treated like a 50HR a year guy...lol

If someone played 161 games their 162 game average would be almost identical to their actual stats. 161 to 162 is one thing, 150 or < to 162 is another, that give no time to recover from fatigue or minor injuries that most likely would cause their numbers to suffer, otherwise players wouldn't get days off.

Why is Manny an A defender?
Shawn Green's peak was short, but he was a Brilliant power hitter from '98-'02.

I think you mean at first glance you'll look at 162 average at the bottom row ... but otherwise, yes, we do a 7-year run, ideally they have a certain number of games player in each of them, but not always.

As for Green -- yes he had that short peak, but if we apply the 7-year average, he's a high Good. If we use a 4-year average, then we need to use a 4-year average for everyone.

When you click on multiple seasons, like the 7-year average, on baseball-reference, it will give you average rates over the course of that time period. Whether it is 100 games or 162 games, is irrelevant because we're looking at rates, not totals. Of course, if we find a player averaged only say 50 games over a 7-year period, we're going to downgrade, because clearly that player did not have the talent to get the regular playing time.

Just looked it up and his 7-year average is 34.1 HR and 37.3 2B. Seems like he deserves a B rating in one or the other to indicate extra-base power. Edit: I suppose this was overall and not per 150 games or whatever. Still seems a little weird that a guy who was pushing Brilliant in both categories only ends up with goods, because doubles and homers are ultimately part of the same spectrum of XB power. The thing with Green is that as he started declining a whole whack of his homers turned into doubles, before he ultimately fell of a cliff and out of the league.
