I think the point total is way too high. 50 max. Points aren't super easy to get in this league like BBSBL. Yeah 50 seems more reasonable

Yeah 50 seems more reasonable Then the question is: is 50 points enough for a team to "jump" over a few teams to get that player they want, especially if it's ARod, Bonds, Griffey? If it turns off a few people because of cost, then that's a good thing? Then Spencer would have to tank to get Bonds, like the old-fashion way.

Its a poor use of rewards IMO. Using rewards that can make players better or repair players just to acquire a "name" isnt smart.

I doubt this would work...some teams may want to claim same guy and do we each get a guy what if its all in the same draft? we skip the first 20 picks while each team gets the guy they want? If 2 teams claim the same guy, the deciding factor will be a mixture of service time and overall impact between each team. Greg Maddux for example may have been drafted by and won his 1st Cy Young Award with the Cubs, but he is best known as a Brave by far, so the Braves would have priority. Same reason why the Mets will have priority over the Dodgers in 1988 with Mike Piazza. It makes perfect sense. I think Cub fans would beg to differ.............

I like the idea but I am with Spencer,,,,,if it cost then I am out. I do not think buying a player based on rewards will be attractive.

Looks like a 3 or 4-way poll for this topic is inevitable at this point

I see very little fun in knowing now already that I will have close to no shot at ever having most of the top baseball players ever. I would love the feeling of being able to draft Koufax, Jeter, Maddux, Gwynn ... whomever. This seems way too scripted to me esp as the league and its history will diverge ever more from real life. Why would a team deserve first dibs on a player 50 years in the future regardless of what has happened in the meantime? It's one player out of a decade of players. I haven't researched anything much yet, but I'd guess each team has at least one top player per decade they'd like to keep in the team history. I see the fun in keeping the guys in the franchise they are most known for in history. I see very little fun in that some guys waste more time on a board posting in order to get awarded more points (or money). I see very little fun that I might have to spend money on more PD/injury reversals than others. Just another added little twist to the league. I've been in numerous leagues wanting the Cardinals. Finally got them. Just see more fun in keeping some history as I know it from growing up learning and reading about the team I've loved since I knew what baseball was.

I think I'm convinced points do not have to be involved. But before we determine how it works, I'd like to flush out which players would be tagged. Please see the other post and provide a preliminary list. I will edit the OP with WAR data.

I'll get on this tomorrow. How did you guys put your lists together? I didn't grow up a Dodgers' fan, so I don't have a great deal of knowledge of their history.

Finally got them. Just see more fun in keeping some history as I know it from growing up learning and reading about the team I've loved since I knew what baseball was. It's one player every decade ... for every team. And those players comprise most of the top players. Take a list of the best 100 players since 1953 and scratch out the ones who become unavailable. I'm betting there's not much left. While one of the main attractions for me was the possibility of drafting Koufax, Jeter, Henderson, whomever of those guys. Not this determinism. I don't mind it if that were how the league worked, HAD it been advertised from the start. Now I have put in a considerable amount of time and now they're going to change the setup of the league on me 1 sim in. If this had been the setup from the start I had wished you best of luck and all the fun you wanted but I wouldn't have signed up in a million years. If this goes through, well, "thanks" for wasting my time.

Looking at what specific pages on BR? I tried to find an all time team WAR page, but couldn't. Did you guys just click through the team page each year, and take note of the good players?

I did a google search for drafts..ended up on a page that sorted things by year by team. Made my way thru the 80s looking for someone to stand out for the cardinals and hit a few. Just have to make a choice now
