I agree Ashes, except that it's ALWAYS via computer. It's always been that way.
If we start taking better judgment, we have to be careful when these judgments are made before your own picks are made, and that worries me. I'd rather just blindly follow the AI in these later rounds. That's partly why I have such large windows in the first 2 rounds, so we aren't getting completely screwed by the AI.

The very fact that that happened should be reason enough to not trust the computer's picks.

I consistently give the draft mods permission to use their best judgment on my pick in the event it ever needs to be auto'd. The AI is flawed. Unless someone is intentionally being a dickhead and giving me all Poor players, I would be fine with a mod picking for me. Much more than the computer fucking up. Lol the previous notion of "oh well the computer picked an all Poor talent player" being okay is just silly. That is the first time I personally have ever seen it do "that poor" of a job. Usually, it's at least acceptable. But we can't do it both ways. We can't use the auto feature AND after using it, look at a pick and say nah, I can do better than that. Had Washington been on, or told me to auto the best available, I might have been more inclined to change it. But since he didn't give any direction, that is what the computer stuck him with. Does it suck? Sure. But I don't like intervening when I haven't been doing that all draft.

I normally do my best to be on or send a list. I'm fortunate to have been able to send one today, I normally have zero access to the internet during my work hours. I can't have my phone in the building I'm in because of security clearance stuff, it makes it difficult. I'd be much more comfortable with a competent draft mod picking for me than the bad AI. But at the end of the day I'm not gonna let it bother me either way. There have been a few sensitive Sallys regarding drafts though, would hate for stuff like this to consistently pop up.

Jeremy, what are your thoughts on not doing a list at all, and just go by the AI? I understand the AI messes up, but we need to be consistent. I thought the reason for the list was so somebody like Shale (even though I'd prefer others not get involved) or anybody other than you and I, could look at the list and auto for a missed pick, to keep things going. We never used it that way this year, and personally, I'd rather just use the computer and forget about a list, in part b/c I'd rather not rely on anybody other than you and me to move the draft along (unless we know we will both be gone for an extended period of time). We can discuss more before next offseason. I don't have a super strong opinion either way, but I'd probably just do away with the list, and let you and I use the computer auto function. If we keep seeing more crazy picks (I don't recall that being the case), we may need to re-evaluate.

I trust draft mods, as should anyone.

Completely agree. Perhaps, this is grounds for a poll. Do we give myself and Jeremy judgment during draft, or go by AI or by a list? Let's do that after Opening Day and have something in place starting next season.

In a way, the AI's issues reared its ugly head and we are faced with what to do. Let's stay strictly AI for now, ignore my list (we're almost done with the 3rd round anyway and I only utilized it for a couple auto expansion picks) And it looks like we're heading into that direction of polling it up.

I think my response to this would be to send us (Chris and I) directions at the beginning of the draft. If you aren't around for a pick, and can't/don't send a list, you want us to look at the draft board, and pick the highest starred player, or something like that. I don't have a perfect answer. I just don't want to let one terrible computer pick ruin that method of auto'ing. If it's a larger problem than that one pick, sure.

I think I would do a list differently by deleting all existing players so all teams were empty and forcing the AI to draft based on all needs, and generate the list from there. I think that has to be the condition if we were to consider using an auto list

The Available Players Report would be helpful. Could narrow things down to a single hitter or pitcher if you look at the top one in each table. Determine by relative star rating, or by judgment call if necessary.

If I were cheating I'd screw over the Yanks (b/c they are my main competition), Matt Carpenter (b/c he and I are at odds sometimes), or Milwaukee (b/c they are probably my biggest divisional threat currently). But not Washington. It sucks, but I don't like making exceptions b/c a pick "doesn't look right." Next year, I say we auto it like you did this year, but we clean that file up, and keep it up to date throughout the draft. And then, we can use that list, and not the computer auto feature. I don't think we can mix and match, and I've been using the computer feature all draft, so I'd like to stick with it. Next year, we can just use the list if we get it cleaned up enough to follow. My $0.02. Edit: I see that you already talked about the cleaner list for next year. I like that. No questions that way, as long as everybody doesn't care about the computer AI feeling needs over best available player. Answer me this... Who won the World Series last year?
